7.12.04 Firefox on ABC

I never thought I’d see this, but it’s a feelgood moment for sure:

Firefox on ABC News

Firefox over 5.6% of the browser market

Just a shame they used the older version of the logo! You can download the videos here

Wow. Very cool for Firefox, and very cool for you. I can’t even imagine how excited I’d be if my work showed up on national TV. Congrats, Jon.

As for the logo, the one in those screenshots look like the updated one to me. What am I missing?

What if there was a coordinated effort for the millions of firefox users to visit a targeted site daily for a month, for the sole purpose of making their web stats show an increase of firefox users to be 50, 70, or even 90% of their total market? I don’t even know what sites would be best to hit, but I’d love to see IE with the 5.6% share instead of the other way around.

Turnip said 1920 days ago:

Wow, nice one Jon. Let this be the first of many…

(cause I think I’m going to kill myself if IE has the same market share by next Christmas)

Many congrats! It’s so exciting! Not to be cheeky :P, but even the one in your portfolio isnt the newer version either hehe…

Tony: If you compare the current one in the About Mozilla Firefox in Help, you’d see that there are slight changes in colour, the shape of the tail, and most obviously the bulb of landmass above the fox’s head. Hehe some tweaking.

Congrats, I can imagine what it must be like.

One question though, you mention they used “an older version of the logo”. What’s the difference? The “new” version is that the one that has an apple’ish glassy glow on the globe?

Rob said 1920 days ago:

I watched the clip—it’s unfortunate they didn’t mention security— maybe ABC’s afraid to ask M$oft what’s up with BHO, activeX, and endless security updates. Still, I hope it boosts Firefox and congratulations on seeing your logo on TV.

Totally awesome, man. Recently I saw a commercial for a local retail store (Conn’s), which showed a screenshot of their web site in Firefox. I was very impressed. This is even bigger news, though, and I hope that “5.6%” increases by a great deal in the very near future. Congratulations, though, and good work!

It’s great news, and congratulations on the publicity Jon. Also, being a Mac man and seeing Tim Berners-Lee interviewed on BBC News 24 the other week, with a Mac behind him made me smile. I aso didn’t know his browser was developed on the next platform, and since the next platform is owned by Apple you could argue the web was developed on a Mac ;-)

Wow, total congrats! I’m a long time reader first time commenter as well actually :)

The way I see it, it’s sorta interesting to watch the underdog rising up as it has – I know it doesn’t need to be said in present company, but we’re definitely on the verge of something big

Nice to see the story on ABC. I was watching NBC last night, so I missed it (I guess I need to rethink my news watching, since they are intertwined with M$ and would never report open source stuff).

I actually did a story on FireFox for our campus news show, although there isn’t a digitized video yet, but many people got interested because of it.

Keep up the good work!

Both of which can’t be seen in the cropped About logo. Duh…

Sorry, the first paragraph should have been a quote. (“Tony: if you compare…”) I used blockquote tags (and bold!) which showed up in the preview but were lost when the comment was posted. Sorry everyone.
