Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal

Fleet FoxesHere’s an album that feels like it’s release is timed to perfection. Fleet Foxes really suit the unusually summery weather we’re having in the UK. For an idea of the sound, I’d start with Band of Horses, and make it mellower and folkier, and well, a little more baroque. White Winter Hymnal is an ideal introduction, but don’t stop there, because the self-titled album is a blinder. A definite contender for favourite record this year, but then again, I’m always a sucker for harmonies.

Download Fleet Foxes – White Winter Hymnal. There’s also a session on Daytrotter for further free enjoyment.

How odd you should reccomend this band. I discovered them a couple of weeks ago on thecoolhunter.net (very cool website) and have since been reccomending them to my friends too :)

Hey this is amazing! Thanks so much, because of this post I’ve been listening to all their other songs on www.myspace.com/fleetfoxes. I’ll be buying this album when I can get into town this afternoon! WOW!

Any band that uses a Bruegel painting as their album cover is worth listening to.

I got a chance to see them at a little club in San Francisco last night. I was worried that they wouldn’t be able to reproduce their big sound and harmonies — I was absolutely blown away. Most beautiful concert I’ve been to in years. Ironically, their big ‘hit’ White Winter Hymnal was probably the least interesting song of the night. If you get a chance to see them do not pass it up.

These guys are on the same label (Bella Union) as some good friends of mine (Midlake). I heard them tonight in Dallas for the first time and I must say, they absolutely knocked my socks off. By far the best live show (and best band) I have heard in recent memory (if not ever)!

I hope they continue to gain fans and momentum. They are truly something special. I also have to agree with Tom—White Winter Hymnal wasn’t the highlight! Please pardon my plethora of parenthetical phrases.

Jacob – if you are friends with Midlake, please ask them to do some tour dates in the UK again!

Jon – That is the plan, eventually. They are taking their sweet time finishing the new album! Trust me, everyone is ready for it to be done (including them), and from what I’ve heard it is going to be quite good.

In fact, I went to the Fleet Foxes show with one of the Midlake guys and was trying to tell him that the two bands should tour together!
