Does this England Exist?

30 May 2008

Screencapture from the BBC drama Filth

The visuals for BBC’s Filth (the story of TV campaigner Mary Whitehouse, played by Julie Walters) were right up my alley. It’s a view of England in the sixties: Morris Minors, pristine red Post Boxes and Routemaster buses, sunshine, village greens and every other sign written in Gill Sans.

I have no idea whether it really existed or not, but I love just the same. More on Flickr

5 artists I didn't appreciate when I was growing up...

…but realised their genius later in life, and wish I could go back to my early teenage years and give myself a big slap:

  1. Elvis Costello
  2. The Smiths
  3. The Jesus and Mary Chain
  4. The Stone Roses
  5. David Bowie
